Pula has a 3000 years old history, and represents a rare example in the world, where there are so many historical remains from Roman era, including the Roman Amphitheater built in the 1st century AD, in the very center of the town. There are many monuments that witness of the rich history of the city, like: the Arch of the Sergii, the Twin Gates, Hercules Gates, small Roman theater, City walls... During the ruling of Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy, Pula became a main naval port with its defense system, which was based on more than 30 impressive citadels.
