The Gate of Hercules
The Gate of Hercules are the most interesting and oldest in its historical context, because of the inscription of the two duumviri (Calpurnius and Cassius) sent from Rome to lead the people and build a colony.
Lack of decorations on this simple arch, which does not set apart from the wall itself, tells us about the archaic nature of this entrance in the town.

The Gate of Hercules
The gates are 4 meters high and have a 3.60 meters wide entrance. Besides the inscription, on top of the arch there are reliefs of Hercules’ head and his club which is an attribute characteristic for him. The character of Hercules is actually used as the guardian of ancient Pula, which was in one of the Roman inscriptions from 2nd/3rd century, calle Colonia Julia Pollentia Herculanea.
